Alton Towers: Hex Set to Reopen on 11 October After Extensive Maintenance
Tuesday 8 October 2024
Alton Towers Resort has confirmed that one of its most iconic dark rides, Hex: The Legend of the Towers, will officially reopen to guests on Friday, 11 October. The attraction has been closed for nearly two full seasons, and fans of the ride are eagerly awaiting its return.
Hex, which has been a staple of the theme park since its debut in 2000, is based on the legend of the "Chained Oak," a local Staffordshire folktale. The attraction takes visitors on a spine-chilling journey through the mysterious and supposedly cursed history of the Earl of Shrewsbury. Using atmospheric storytelling, eerie visuals, and unique ride mechanics, Hex has built a loyal following over the years. Its closure in early 2023 left many wondering about the future of the ride.
Alton Towers revealed that Hex would reopen at 12 noon on its designated reopening day. Though the ride itself will largely remain the same in terms of its storyline and main structure, several updates have been made during its downtime. Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director of Alton Towers, stated in June that the ride had been undergoing "extensive maintenance," hinting that some of the work went beyond the originally planned scope.
The exact details of the new technology and effects have yet to be fully revealed. However, park-goers can likely expect enhancements in lighting, sound, and perhaps even some surprises in the motion or narrative components. With advancements in projection mapping and special effects in recent years, many fans are speculating that the improvements could add a whole new layer of immersion to the already atmospheric ride.
The timing of the reopening couldn’t be better. With Alton Towers deep into its spooky season and Halloween events, the return of Hex is sure to be a highlight for thrill-seekers and ghost-story enthusiasts alike.
