Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was created by Imagineer Tony Baxter and engineer Bill Watkins based on a concept for a western themed boat ride which was never built. The project was put on hold whilst Space Mountain was created.

The theme for the ride is based on gold being discovered on Big Thunder Mountain and guests ride the locomotive trains racing around the mountain.

Since it's creation, three more Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coasters have opened at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.
